Affordability Challenges of America’s Working Households
The National Housing Conference, Center for Housing Policy report focuses on housing affordability for working households. Nearly one in four working households spends more than half of its income on housing costs. Moreover, despite falling home values, housing affordability worsened significantly for working owners and renters between 2008 and 2010. EPA green infrastructure website
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Water launched its new Green Infrastructure website to better communicate the “what, why, and how” of green infrastructure to municipalities, developers, and the general public. The site offers publications and tools developed by EPA, state and local governments, the private sector, nonprofit organizations, and academic institutions. The new green infrastructure website emphasizes the multiple environmental, social, and economic benefits associated with green infrastructure. Housing Seniors in Rural America: Resources, Advocacy and Practice
One of the most dramatic demographic shifts in U. S. history is the growth of the elderly population. Rural America has a large and growing senior population, but also often lacks housing resources and capacity. Twenty-five percent of all rural households are occupied by the elderly. Of those homes, 80 percent are homeowner rather than rental properties. In fact, almost half of the rural census tracts in the U.S. have no subsidized rental units for seniors.
