The American Food Bank in Yucca Valley supplies thousands of pounds of food per day to area residents.
With the number of people who regularly visit the American Food Bank in Yucca Valley, California, the Hi-Desert Star reports the founder is finding it difficult to keep up with the increasing demand.
The bank, which opened in September 2009, now has nearly 1,000 recipients who receive donations on a regular basis, the paper reports. Though the founder, James Wilson, already has two considerable-sized warehouses to store food, he's running out of space, as well as funding.
"Right now we need money," Wilson told the source. "We already have a 6,000-square-foot warehouse and a 500-square-foot warehouse, but we're outgrowing this building, big time."
Wilson told the paper his food bank gave away nearly 845,000 pounds of food in 2010, and approximately 8,000 pounds per day this year. While he has received some local donations, Wilson admitted he needs more funding to keep the bank up to speed.
The food bank recently received some donations from the Million Dollar Feinstein Challenge to Fight Hunger.
