More than 70 residents of rural San Juan County, New Mexico, will no longer receive natural gas services from the only provider in the area on September 30, according to a report.

The Daily Times reports 71 of the 385 New Mexico Gas Co. customers who receive their gas from Williams Four Corners LLC will not be able to get services from the company later this fall.

The cut in natural gas services will occur because the residents do not live within the region covered by New Mexico Gas. In turn, these residents will have to look for alternative energy sources, the paper states.

"These customers are not directly connected to the New Mexico Gas Company's distribution system. From time to time with these types of customers things change and the customers are affected," Gary Murray, the manager of gas supply and system planning for New Mexico Gas, told the Times.

Many rural businesses will have their gas shut off as well. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently awarded grants to several rural companies in New Mexico through the Rural Energy for America Program for green energy additions to power their businesses.
