USDA California State Director Glenda Humiston will introduce a program that aims to stimulate the local economy of California's Morongo Basin through economic development.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) California State Director Glenda Humiston will introduce a program that aims to stimulate the local economy of California's Morongo Basin through economic development.
Humiston will speak at Copper Mountain College Bell Center on March 15 to unveil details regarding a USDA Rural Development program intended to help communities in the Morongo Basin area.
The program will involve collaboration between public and private professionals, investors and others in the area looking to help improve the local economy through technical assistance, grants and strategic planning.
"California's small towns and rural areas face both challenges and dramatic new opportunities," Humiston told the Hi-Desert Star. "I'm committed to working with rural communities and entrepreneurs in our great state to meet those challenges head-on, and seize the many opportunities that rural California enjoys today."
She added that bringing sustainable jobs and long-term economic growth to the area is one of her and USDA Rural Development's key goals for the Morongo Basin area and other rural communities statewide.
Small business lending is one way in which California's rural communities can become more economically sustainable. Rural Community Assistance Corporation recently launched the
Small Business Loan Program to help with
economic community development and job creation in the state.
