The NCAI praised President Obama for his new jobs legislation, stating it should aid many Native Americans without employment.

The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) recently released a statement regarding President Barack Obama's proposed American Jobs Act, stating the legislation would substantially assist tribal communities throughout the country.

In the statement, NCAI President Jefferson Keel said the bill would create a better jobs climate for Native Americans in need of work.

"NCAI applauds the president for taking action and supports the very real impact of the American Jobs Act for tribal nations and Native people," said Keel. "Over 20,000 Native American-owned small businesses would benefit from tax cuts and 1.5 million Native American workers will benefit from the extension of the payroll tax cut."

Keel added that as Native American workers nationwide continue to deal with high levels of unemployment, passing the president's proposed legislation is imperative to provide these residents with new employment opportunities.

Regarding the legislation, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack stated in a radio interview that the president's plan is a short-term one, but could provide aid to many Americans looking for work, according to the Ag Information Network.
