Funding for the Veterans Administration could be cut, Senator Tester recently stated.

Speaking at a meeting of the Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce in Great Falls, Montana, Senator Jon Tester stated he is monitoring how federal spending cuts and the nation's debt will affect rural Americans, according to the Great Falls Tribune.

Tester said the debt and spending discussions will become a primary talking point during the remainder of 2011 in Washington, the paper reports. He added that cuts are likely, and could affect rural communities nationwide.

"We know that there will be an element of shared sacrifice and we're ready, but what matters most to me is that rural America shouldn't feel more than our share of pain," said Tester.

One potential casualty of federal spending cuts, according to Tester, could be funding for the Veterans Administration. He said agencies such as this shouldn't lose money, particularly with many veterans returning from overseas recently.

A report by the Washington Post states that rural workers would feel the effects the most should substantial spending cuts be ordered by federal lawmakers.
