Rural communities in Nevada will benefit from a number of recently approved grants.
Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has approved grant funding totaling more than $2.6 million for more than 30 projects in rural areas of the state to assist with public works projects, housing and economic development.
The grant money comes from the State and Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which is managed by the Nevada Commission on Economic Development (NCED) and administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
NCED says 18 of the 32 grants will be used for public facilities, while eight will be used for planning purposes. The remaining six will be used for public services, economic development and
housing assistance.
"Awarding theses grants is going to improve the infrastructure and quality of life in the rural communities of our state," said Sandoval. "From an economic development standpoint, funding of these projects will go a long way towards making the communities more functional and attractive to businesses."
Nationwide, the aims of the CDBG program are to improve the availability of quality housing in rural areas, provide additional economic assistance and improve rural residents' overall quality of life.
