Experts discussed the state of Nevada's economy at a conference at UNLV.

Economic experts convened last Monday for a conference held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas by the school's Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER), where the analysts discussed the condition of the state's economy.

Stephen Brown, director of the CBER, told attendees he believes southern Nevada has shown some signs of economic growth this year. However, one main area holding the region back is the housing market.

Additionally, Brown stated the employment situation in Nevada improved in the first half of 2011, but added slow job growth is projected for the remainder of the year.

"It's going to take years for the real estate market to recover," Brown said. He added consumers living in Nevada have reason to be concerned with the shape of the state's economy.

John Restrepo, a consultant with RCG Economics in Las Vegas, stated at the conference that the recovery for many Nevada communities may be slow, as the state's mostly tourism-based economy relies on the success of other state economies.
