Though some rural mining communities in Nevada are doing well financially, a number of other communities in rural areas are hurting economically.
Though some rural communities in Nevada are doing well economically, some non-mining towns are struggling to keep up financially, reports the Nevada Business Magazine.
However, the magazine states without improved economic conditions in many rural counties statewide — such as Nye County, which experienced a 16.4 percent unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2011 — some communities could incur further financial difficulties.
"They were challenged before the recession, and it just hasn't gotten any better," Sarah Adler, USDA Rural Development state director, told the source. "But they have leaders learning to operate in the 21st century, and they're not giving up."
A lack of jobs in many rural areas appears to be hampering economic growth. Unemployment for the entire state of Nevada was 12.5 percent in April, according to the Department of Labor.
