Rural residents in California will soon gain access to broadband services.

Rural residents in California will soon gain access to broadband services.

California's El Dorado county, also known as Gold Country, will soon gain access to broadband services through a partnership between internet provider Cal.net and network equipment provider Carlson, the provider said in a statement.

The rugged terrain of the rural area has made it challenging and undesirable for internet providers to extend services, but new white space technology will enable providers to tap into unused television channels, whose strong signals can travel across the rough landscape. Access to broadband services is expected to greatly facilitate economic community development initiatives in rural locations and give consumers and business owners greater access to resources.

Local entrepreneur, Mrs. Edwards, said access to broadband will enable her to avoid costly and time-consuming tasks that can be undertaken quickly with the use of a computer.

"I'm finally able to keep tabs on my business from home," Edwards told the company. "For 20 years we've had no decent Internet service were we live. Now we have superior remote access to our office computers, and can finally enjoy peace of mind while saving us many hours of driving."

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently announced its decision to finance broadband projects across rural American to help businesses and rural residents gain fast access to the resources they need to improve their economic circumstances.
