During his tour of the state's rural communities, Utah Governor Gary Herbert stated there is a substantial need for greater access to technology in rural areas.
Utah Governor Gary Herbert recently embarked on a tour of rural communities statewide to discuss how to improve the jobs market.
One way Utah can experience job growth, Herbert said, is to provide communities throughout the state greater access to technology in schools. He stated rural areas would benefit most from increased access to technology.
"It's a continuous effort, and it doesn't have a beginning or an end," Herbert said, according to The Associated Press. "We need to evolve to face the changing marketplace, which is now global."
Additionally, The Salt Lake Tribune reports Herbert spoke at length about the importance agriculture plays in the state. However, he said more needs to be done to broaden the scope of businesses operations.
Many children who graduate schools in rural Utah towns leave for jobs in more populated areas where businesses tend to operate, said Herbert. He added more companies are needed in rural areas to retain more of their workforce and in turn improve the local economies.
Though Herbert added the state government should play a role in helping the employment market in Utah, he said the other organizations and agencies need to step up to help as well.
