Some lawmakers, including Congressman Tipton and Governor Brownback, state green energy development could help create many new jobs for rural communities.
Congressman Scott Tipton of Colorado recently announced new legislation to create rural jobs through speedier, more efficient development of hydropower facilities nationwide.
The proposed legislation, called The Bureau of Reclamation Small Conduit Hydropower Development and Rural Jobs Act of 2011, reduces regulatory costs for hydropower development, Tipton states.
Additionally, he says the bill would provide work opportunities for Americans "badly in need" of jobs, including residents of Colorado's third district, which he represents.
"At a time when our country needs to focus on domestic energy production and job creation, hydropower can play a critical role in providing clean renewable energy while expanding job opportunities in rural America," said Tipton. "Hydropower is ... a key component of an 'all of the above' energy platform that I continue to strongly support."
Governor Sam Brownback of Kansas is another lawmaker pushing for the advancement of renewable energy projects to spur economic growth in rural communities. Brownback recently stated wind power could create substantial employment opportunities for rural residents, particularly in the Midwest.
