The Alaska State House of Representatives extended the Renewable Energy Grant fund by five years.
The Alaska House of Representatives passed recent legislation allowing residents of Alaska to continue receiving grant money to conduct renewable energy projects. This funding will create significant savings for rural residents.
Alaska House members announced the Renewable Energy Grant fund will receive $50 million annually for the next five years to conduct green energy projects, such as the construction of hydro power plants.
State Representative Bill Thomas said the fund has helped 20 renewable energy projects since being founded in 2008.
State Representative Charisse Millett told the Alaska radio station KSKA that the fund is working well in the state.
"Sometimes we talk about if this program's going to last or if we can sustain that program," said Millett. "This is one that we should continue to fund. It has done great things for communities all over."
