Land conservation projects in Colorado are expected to created many jobs for rural residents, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar stated recently.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and U.S. Secretaries Mark Udall and Michael Bennett recently met with hundreds of state Colorado residents to discuss job creation statewide.

The government officials convened with state residents at Adams State University in Alamosa. San Luis Valley native Salazar noted the government plans to create many jobs in the region through different projects, including numerous trails that will be developed soon.

Additionally, Salazar stated land conservation throughout Colorado is a top priority, and is something that should lead to further employment opportunities for locals.

"The way you create jobs in the Valley is you protect the water resource," said Salazar. "You protect traditional economic activities. You protect the jobs that are tied to those economic activities and you look for ways to create new jobs."

Plans to develop a system of trails and begin work on land conservation projects were created with the assistance of 320 county commissioners and local officials statewide.
