The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is providing $747,000, in addition to the $746,435 provided by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection and the State Revolving Loan fund, that will help fund for the replacement of dated waterpipes in West Wendover.
The city has suffered from inadequate infrastructure for more than 15 years, according to the Elko Daily Free Press. However, funding from USDA Rural Development and other agencies has helped start many needed projects.
Notable projects include $2.8 million toward improvements to wastewater treatment facilities and around $4 million to fund a local landfill.
"This is a dynamic city that gets the job done,” Sarah Adler, USDA Rural Development State Director, said at an awards ceremony for the city, according to the paper. “You have remained steadily on track with water system improvements, a new landfill, a state of the art wastewater reclamation facility, and now the new water pipelines."
While national programs continue to support West Wendover, many local partners continue to improve living conditions for residents.
