Despite once being an active rural community, California's South Dos Palos residents are now dealing with deteriorating infrastructure, and have major concerns about drinking water and wastewater services.

wastewater services.
The California Watch reports that while the U.S. Census Bureau says the median household income in the community is $28,931, a local survey suggests it is well below $20,000. The source also notes that 48 percent of residents living in South Dos Palos live below the poverty level.
The data disputes could be increasing the cost of services including water and sewer rates, making these services too expensive for low-income families.
"Infrastructure is needed for housing and economic development; you can't have one without the other," Ismal Diaz Herrera, director of the San Joaquin Valley Rural Development, told California Watch.
According to the source, the county supervisor, Jerry O'Banion, says he hopes to obtain federal funding to help install sidewalks and upgrade dated water and sewer systems.
