USDA Rural Utilities funded a water treatment facility in California.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Utilities Service Administrator Jonathan Adelstein and Coachella, California, Mayor Eduardo Garcia helped introduce the opening of a new water treatment facility in the community.
The facility will provide rural residents with modern
water system services. The $3 million loan used to construct the plant was provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"It is critical that communities like Coachella have reliable, safe wastewater systems," said Adelstein. "Sus problemas son nuestros problemas, and we - the people of this community and the Obama administration - are working in partnership to fix them."
Additional funding has been provided for wastewater and water system upgrades in the Coachella region in the past few years.
In 2006, $5 million was provided to build a water storage tank. Also, a $5 million loan and $1 million grant was given to Coachella to create a new sewage pump station in 2002.
USDA will help unveil another water treatment facility in Nevada. The project was developed in partnership with the Indian Hills General Improvement District.
