A water rights issue continues in Colorado between members of the Navajo Nation and industry officials.

Many Navajo Nation members are displeased with a potential settlement that would take away water rights to a portion of the Little Colorado River, according to Indian Country Today Media Network.

Tribe members are unhappy with the amount and quality of water the Navajo-Hopi Little Colorado River Water Rights Settlement Act of 2012 would leave them with should it be approved by the government.

The dispute between local industry leaders and Navajo members over water rights from parts of the river would be resolved in the proposed settlement, which would allow Native American communities who use the river to continue to get water from the C-aquifer of the river.

However, some members state this water isn't enough to sustain local communities and isn't quality water, the source reports.

The Arizona Department of Water Resources states the water in the C-aquifer is "too deep to be economically useful, or is unsuitable for most uses because of high concentrations of total dissolved solids."

Public forums will soon take place, at which Navajo members and local officials and government members will express their thoughts on the settlement.
