One of the Bureau of Reclamation funded projects will use $490,000 in grant money to repair and replace the drinking water delivery and wastewater services systems on the Jicarilla Reservation.
U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico recently announced final Senate approval for a bill to fund a number of important water projects through the Bureau of Reclamation and the Army Corps of Engineers.
One of the Bureau of Reclamation funded projects will use $490,000 in grant money to repair and replace the drinking water delivery and
wastewater services systems on the Jicarilla Reservation.
Water assistance programs also include $227,000 to fund water supply planning efforts within the Navajo Nation and funding for a collaborative effort between New Mexico, Colorado and other water users to study supplies, availability and usage.
Addtionally, $957,000 of the Army Corps of Engineers funding will go towards planning water resource projects that benefit Native American tribes. This may include planning to preserve cultural and natural resources, reduce flood damages and support environmental restoration and protection. Funds will also support the maintenance and management of existing water programs and facilities, such as dams.
