An affordable housing complex was built for farm workers in Colorado, Multi-Housing News reports.
Affordable housing units were created specifically for rural farm workers in southern Colorado, thanks to a nonprofit residential development organization in Denver, Multi-Housing News (MHN) reports.
The source states the Community Resources and Housing Development Corporation (CRHDC) contributed funds for the creation of the 40-unit Alta Vista de la Montana affordable housing complex in Delta, Colorado.
"We had been working up there for four years with local growers and community groups," CRHDC Executive Director Al Gold told MHN. "The growers expressed concern about the lack of affordable housing for farm workers, and felt that to attract the quality workers they needed quality and affordable rental housing."
Gold added that the CRHDC and other nonprofit organizations have been working to help more agricultural producers, including farmers and growers, develop housing, since many of those producers don't have the resources to provide their workers with residences.
The complex opened on January 12, and cost nearly $8 million, which was provided through a combination of private and public funding. Rural Community Assistance Corporation helped fund the project.
