HUD and NAREB attempt to end minority housing discrimination

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) are partnering to promote affordable community housing for minorities.

According to the HUD, approximately 28 percent of the complaints registered to the agency during 2010 related to discrimination against African-Americans.

John Trasvina, HUD Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, stated HUD's partnership with NAREB is a joint effort to raise awareness across communities nationwide and encourage fair housing to minorities.

Julius Cartwright, president of NAREB, emphasized that his company has been a supporter of equal housing opportunities for more than 60 years.

"We are extremely proud to partner with and have the additional reinforcement of HUD on this very important initiative designed to preserve and stabilize minority neighborhoods and communities across the United States," Cartwright said.

The agencies will hold joint seminars and forums that discuss the fair housing rights that all people and what to do in case they are subject to discrimination.
