The grant programs from HUD aim to help build sustainable communities and improve job creation.
Recently, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan announced $95 million is being made available through agency programs to enhance community economic development.
Funding will be provided to local initiatives and local, state and tribal governments from HUD's Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities grant programs.
The grants are used to broaden housing options, improve connections between employment centers and homes and reduce barriers to creating sustainable economic communities.
"Connecting affordable housing choices with quality schools and jobs not only ensures families will be able to provide a safe environment for their children, but it also provides communities large and small with the resources they need to make a sustainable plan for their future," said Donovan.
A statement from the White House says the $98 million provided from HUD's regional planning grants to communities last year is expected to create $120 million in other investments.
