New survey statistics show affordable housing is a top concern among rural Wyoming residents.
A survey of residents living in a rural Wyoming community found that a lack of affordable housing tops the list of issues they face, according to the Buffalo Bulletin.
The Wyoming Rural Development Council (WRDC) conducted a community assessment of residents of Buffalo. Results from the study showed a number of problems exist for the rural residents, including a lack of public transportation for seniors, the types of available jobs and not enough low-cost housing.
"One of the first things that came up was affordable housing," Sreyoshi Chakraborty, who works with the council, told the newspaper. "That came up in pretty much every listening session that we had as well as economic diversification. The issue of jobs and good places to live for your average worker seem to be impacting the area."
The last time the WRDC held a community assessment was in 2011. Issues which surfaced from the results of that survey also showed problems with community development, as well as inefficient tourism resources in the town.
