Coming Home: Visalia seminar survey results
In June, a conference sponsored by Rural LISC, NeighborWorks and RCAC was held in Visalia. All of the seminar presentation and resource materials are available on the Rural LISC website at: http://www.lisc.org/rural_lisc/resources/seminar_archives/2012_seminar_materials.php. In preparation for the conference, RCAC surveyed grantees for information about their programs. Here is the outcome of RCAC’s survey. We received responses from 48 grantees operating in 11 U.S. states and two Pacific Island states regarding their work conducted in 2011.
The following were the definitions for the categories posed:
- Total value of all housing: This is defined as the development budget (all loans, grants and sweat equity for all houses and rental units built in 2011 plus the value of all rehab work completed in 2011)
- Total value of other development: This is defined as the total development budget of any commercial property or community facilities completed in 2011
- Number of homes built
- New businesses created: This is defined at the number of new business ventures started by the organization in 2011
- Total number of low-income (LI) households: This is defined as the number of LI households that occupied completed homes or used services provided by the organization in 2011
- Total number of very low-income (VLI) Households: This is defined as the number of VLI households that occupied completed homes or used services provided by the organization in 2011

The western self-help network makes a significant contribution to the improved housing conditions in our communities, the affordable homeownership for our families, and economic well-being of our citizens. We thank the grantees, the Rural Development staff, and the builders who make this possible.
