RCAC Provides Free Water Board Ethics Workshops

Classroom workshops qualify for six contact hours

October 9, 2012

RCAC board ethics workshops increase transparency in small water systems while ensuring compliance with two California laws.

Assembly Bill 54 requires private mutual water company board members to have two hours of training within six months of being elected; AB 1234 requires board members of public entities to have six hours of ethics training every other year.

RCAC provides these trainings free of charge.

Conflicts of interest, fiduciary responsibilities, Safe Drinking Water Act compliance, long-term management, and Capital Improvement Planning are all required topics. The workshops facilitate mutual water systems’ AB 54 compliance, and prepare them for more effective management.

Another set of board member trainings brings small water systems into compliance with AB 1234. These expand on the similar topics, with more in-depth discussions of open meeting laws through the Brown Act, ethical conduct, avoiding perks, and fair processes.

These trainings are funded by the California Department of Public Health. Both on-site and online trainings are available. (Access the brochure here for a complete list.)
