RCAC Board of directors elects new roster

West Sacramento, Calif. — The Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) Board of Directors recently elected new officers at its quarterly meeting. Elizabeth Moore, Nevada, is now board president; Robert Rendon, Utah, is vice president; Anita Gahimer Crow, Washington, is secretary; and Nalani Fujimori-Kaina, Hawaii, is treasurer. Dr. Florine Raitano from Colorado was the board president for the last two years and will continue to serve on the board.

“Florine was president during a very challenging time in our history. She provided consultation, support and excellent recommendations as we looked for new directions in difficult times. She helped the board navigate complex issues and we are especially pleased that she is continuing on the board,” said Stanley Keasling, RCAC chief executive officer.

RCAC board members serve three-year terms and may remain on the board for up to four consecutive terms. Officers are elected annually.

In November, board members Kirke Wilson and Ann Harrington each completed their fourth, three-year term on the RCAC Board.

“As two board members with whom I had substantial prior history, Ann and Kirke played key roles in facilitating the transition from Bill French’s leadership as the founding CEO to mine. Their understanding of rural community development helped to chart a new strategic direction for the organization. Their knowledge, grace in solving difficult problems and tenacity in helping to fashion a way forward for the board will all be missed. Above all, we will miss seeing good friends on a regular basis,” said Keasling.

The board also elected one new member, John Sheehan of California. Sheehan is the former executive director of Plumas Corporation, a nonprofit organization focusing on economic and business development, visitor attraction and natural resources.

Founded in 1978, RCAC provides a wide range of community development services for rural and Native American communities, agricultural workers and community-based organizations in 13 Western states. RCAC has strong core services and expertise in housing, environmental infrastructure (water, wastewater and solid waste), leadership training, economic development and financing.
