Karen McBride Appointed to Utilities Rate Advisory Commission

West Sacramento, Calif. — Karen McBride, Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) environmental rural development specialist was recently appointed to the City of Sacramento’s newUtilities Rate Advisory Commission.

McBride joins six other professionals who provide rate recommendations to the Mayor and City Council and hold public hearings to encourage community understanding and participation in the utility service rate setting process. "I'm very excited to be on the commission. This will give me a much better perspective of what rural communities face with service rate changes, and I will be able to share my experiences with the commission,” McBride said.  McBride’s appointment is for a three-year term.

Founded 30 years ago, RCAC provides a wide range of community development services for rural and Native American communities, agricultural workers and community-based organizations in 13 western states. RCAC offers expertise in housing, environmental infrastructure (water, wastewater and solid waste), leadership training, economic development and financing. RCAC is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and operates a $65 million Loan Fund that finances affordable housing, community facilities, and water and wastewater systems. McBride is a California certified Grade II Wastewater Plant Operator with more than 25 years experience in regulation analysis and implementation; applicable government regulations and policies; wastewater technology; technical assistance and training; and wastewater treatment plant operations and personnel management. She is the California On-Site Wastewater Association president and she has been an RCAC environmental rural development specialist since 1997.
