SAMUEL A. KINGMAN (1818-1904) was associate justice of the Kansas state supreme court, state librarian of Kansas, and the first president of the Kansas State Historical Society.

MARVIN H. GARFIELD is instructor of history in Roosevelt Intermediate School, Wichita.
