Training where it is needed most
Environmental Project Highlight
Where: Lake Tahoe Basin, NV and CA
Problem: Multiple utilities needing quality educational opportunities locally
Solution: RCAC partners with North Tahoe Public Utilities District to provide comprehensive water and wastewater operator and management workshops
The Lake Tahoe basin and surrounding areas is host to dozens of small water and wastewater systems. Until recently, the utilities had to send operators to training events hundreds of miles away and absorb the extra costs associated with travel. With limited staff, it is difficult to attend trainings that require the operators to leave their systems for a full day.

In response, RCAC joined forces with North Tahoe Public Utilities District (NTPUD) to provide a series of free monthly workshops for local utilities in Kings Beach, a convenient location on the north shore of the lake. Between 10 and 20 operators are attending the monthly trainings that focus on professional development for operators and managers. Operators are required to obtain contact training hours to keep their licenses and to qualify for higher grade licenses. As a result of the training, a number of the Nevada and California water and wastewater operators have passed their certification exams.
Given the attendance, it is obvious that the local utilities and operators have come to rely on RCAC workshops for the professional development of their staff.
