Capacity development benefits Goshute
Environmental Project Highlight
Where: Ibapah, Utah
Problem: Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation drinking water system operations needed improvements
Solution: RCAC aided the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation Utility Board with technical, managerial
and financial capacity building
RCAC provided technical assistance, and leadership and economic development training to the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation in Ibapah, Utah. The Goshute Reservation lies on both sides of the Nevada-Utah border. The tribe is two hours and approximately 75 miles from Wendover, the nearest town. Tribal residents now travel to Wendover for gasoline, groceries and any other needed supplies.

RCAC delivered board training to the volunteer water board for the tribe on technical, managerial and financial issues. Goals were developed and an action plan was drafted for each goal. The plan is updated to reflect project progress and status regularly. The plan identifies needed resources and next steps, and it will be a roadmap for successful project implementation while ensuring the Goshute is providing safe drinking water to its members.
RCAC also is working with the tribe to develop a fueling center, which is an economic development component of its strategic plan. The fueling center will save the tribe and tribal members on costly fuel and create at least one job in addition to creating revenue through selling gas and grocery items. RCAC is now developing feasibility studies and financing proposals for the fueling center.
